Regatta 2: GC32 World Championship 2019, Lagos

europe

27 – 30 June 2019: The next stop on the GC32 Racing Tour 2019 is the historic port of Lagos in Portugal. The second GC32 Regatta Event will be the official World Championship.

The World Championship will be held for the second time in 2019 after the GC32 Racing Tour was officially approved by World Sailing in 2017.

For the Black Star Sailing Team this is the second opportunity to compete with the best in the world and find their place in the GC32 racing circus.

As already at the Villasimius Cup in Sardinia, a very strong field is to be expected. With the Team Tilt the World Champions 2018 will return to the World Championship. With the titleholders, the Team Alinghi and the Black Star Sailing Team three boats are sailing now at the GC32 Racing Tour 2019 under Swiss flag.

The city of Lagos can look back on a rich and eventful history. Thanks to the good location of the bay of Lagos, people have been settling there for a very long time.

Situated at the gates of the Atlantic, Capo de São Vicente is Europe’s most southwestern foothills and offers the lower coastal strip of Portugal and thus also the port city of Lagos sufficient protection from the rough sea.

Due to constant wind and little swell, Lagos offers excellent conditions for a regatta for hydrofoiling catamarans.
