GC32 Lagos Cup, 21 – 25 June 2023, Lagos, Portugal | At last the time is here: With the GC32 Lagos Cup another regatta with our hydrofoiling catamaran is just around the corner. After almost a year since our triumph at the GC32 World Championship, the Black Star Sailing Team returns to Portugal to compete against other teams in the only event of this class this year. In addition to some overlaps in the schedules of various high performance racing series, there were organizational uncertainties so that of the original GC32 Racing Tour 2023 only the GC32 Lagos Cup I will be sailed. All the more we are looking forward to this event, which brings us for the sixth time to this picturesque port city. Located in the Algarve between Faro and Cape St. Vincent, Lagos looks back on a history in which almost everything revolved around seafaring. But even in the present, seafaring is not to be imagined without – Lagos is, among other things, a popular port of call when it comes to hosting regattas. Thanks to moderate swell with constant wind, the bay off Lagos offers ideal sailing conditions, even for holding a regatta for hydrofoiling catamarans. However, due to the close proximity of the Atlantic Ocean just 20 miles behind Cape St. Vincent, the conditions are extremely changeable and demanding – even for experienced regatta participants. After this overlong break, the Black Star Sailing Team arrived in Lagos earlier than usual and is now preparing thoroughly for the event. In addition to the boat, which has undergone a demanding repair, the team must also find its way back to form with a changed line-up.

Only one week later the starting signal for the second event of the 2023 44Cup is given. Accordingly, the days between the regattas will be hectic for the shore team and the crew members sailing on both boats. Of course we appreciate any support from our partners and fans.

As always, we will keep you up to date.
