44Cup Marstrand, 24 – 28 June 2026, Marstrand, Sweden | With the first intensive phase of the season – featuring three Cape 31 events along England’s south coast – now behind us, Black Star Sailing’s focus shifts back to the RC44 class. The 44Cup Marstrand at the end of June marks the next major challenge on the international racing calendar and takes the team back to a venue that has long become a classic on the RC44 circuit.

Located on Sweden’s west coast, Marstrand has been one of the 44Cup’s key venues for many years. The small island north of Gothenburg combines a rich sailing heritage with a race area that holds a special place among both teams and spectators. The imposing Carlsten Fortress, the narrow passages of the archipelago and the close proximity between the racecourse and the shoreline create a truly distinctive atmosphere.

Marstrand is by no means unfamiliar territory for Black Star Sailing. The team has competed here several times with its RC44 yacht and has gained valuable experience in these demanding waters. Conditions around Marstrand challenge crews in every aspect of racing: shifting winds, local effects created by the archipelago and significant pressure differences across the racecourse make tactical decisions particularly demanding.

Following the deliberate decision to skip the season opener in Lanzarote and after entering the RC44 season at the 44Cup Puntaldia, the newly formed team has now settled into a strong rhythm. Marstrand offers the next opportunity to measure the progress made so far against an exceptionally competitive international fleet and to further refine onboard routines.

The 44Cup remains one of the most closely contested racing series in international sailing. Margins between teams are minimal, and even small mistakes can have an immediate impact on the standings. Well-drilled procedures, clear communication and the ability to adapt quickly to changing conditions are therefore essential.

For Black Star Sailing, Marstrand also marks the beginning of an intense summer period. Further RC44 events follow only a few weeks later, while the Cape 31 programme in Great Britain continues in parallel. Both campaigns are therefore set to gain further momentum.
