2022 GC32 Racing Tour Vice Champions!

GC32 Racing Tour 2021

Already in the planning phase of the GC32 Racing Tour 2022 last fall it became clear that the GC32 regatta calendar will overlap with some important events of other regatta classes. These overlaps with the SailGP class, among others, could no longer be avoided, as the 2022 planning was already too far advanced.

The GC32 lineup was missing important participants due to these events taking place at the same time – an unfortunate circumstance that led the Racing Tour Management to cancel the last two events of the GC32 Racing Tour 2022 without replacement.

After three of the five scheduled regattas, Alinghi Red Bull Racing was thus declared the overall winner of the GC32 Racing Tour 2022 at an early stage. And they did so with just one point ahead of second and third ranked teams Black Star Sailing and Rockwool Racing.

Commenting on second place in the GC32 Racing Tour 2022 overall standings, skipper Christian Zuerrer said:
“To finish our third Racing Tour on the podium again after our debut in 2019 makes us of course very proud. Especially since the Tour victory would have been within our grasp. Although the joy prevails, we are also a little disappointed. Because our team is in absolute top form, which is why we are already somewhat mourning the missed duels with Team Alinghi Red Bull and Team Rockwool, but also with the other teams.” Looking ahead to the upcoming fall, Zuerrer adds, “From that point of view, our new RC44 yacht comes just at the right moment. Now we just focus on the remaining two regattas in the Black Star event calendar of the 44Cup 2022.”

2023 will be no less challenging for GC32 Racing Tour planning. On top of the full calendars of various high performance classes, the 37th America’s Cup is already casting its long shadow ahead for the 2023 season.
Black Star Sailing will keep you up to date.
