The year 2024 took the Black Star Sailing Team through high waves and tight manoeuvres, and gave them some truly remarkable moments: our sixth regatta season was marked by changes, challenges and a highlight that will stay with us for a long time: the RC44 World Championship on Lake Lucerne.

After some delay, the start of the season in the RC44 class was finally approaching. With the decision not to start the season with the Black Star RC44 Team in the British Virgin Islands and to skip the 44Cup Nanny Cay, it was clear that the 44Cup Porto Cervo would be the first real test of the season. Thanks to close coordination with the class association, we were granted two additional days of training under strict regulations – which we intended to use intensively.
After a solid start to the season with the RC44 in Porto Cervo, we were about to return to Marstrand. While the population in Switzerland was groaning under a heatwave, we were almost looking forward to the Swedish summer with temperatures of around 13 degrees and 20 knots of wind.
The RC44 World Championship in Scheveningen was undoubtedly the highlight and also the final event of Black Star Sailing’s 2025 season. In 2026, the team intends to return stronger than ever, focusing on RC44 and targeted talent development.
In December and January, preparations for the yachts and team line-ups were in full swing. Now we are starting the eighth season of the Black Star Sailing Team with enthusiasm, buoyed by the experience we have gained, new insights, fresh ambitions, and a clear strategic direction.
Successful re-start! Cape 31 Princess Sofia Trophy Palma and 44Cup Puntaldia. – Just as at last year’s opening regatta, the ‘Trofeo Princesa Sofía de Palma de Mallorca’ welcomed us with open arms this season too, starting with light, shifting winds on the water. We quickly found our rhythm and were able to establish ourselves on the podium early on.
Four rounds of the Cape 31 UK Series in eight weeks now lie behind the Black Star Sailing Team, with the 44Cup Marstrand in between. What the Solent and the Kattegat off the Swedish coast had in store for us in such a short space of time would have been enough for an entire season: Mediterranean heat in five knots of wind, squalls of 38 knots, and in between that sea breeze which was the main reason we had been looking forward to the south of England. But let us take things in order.
