44Cup Porto Cervo, 14–18 May 2025, Porto Cervo, Sardinia, Italy |

The event in Porto Cervo marks the start of the 2025 RC44 season for Black Star Sailing – and with a special focus. As the regatta in Nanny Cay, originally planned as the season opener, was cancelled, the team decided to invest the time gained in an extended setup and fine-tuning of the RC44. The season opener in Porto Cervo will therefore not only be the first serious competition of the year, but also a first opportunity to assess the team’s progress after the winter break.

Porto Cervo, located on the famous Costa Smeralda, has been a fixture in international yachting for decades. The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS), founded by the Aga Khan, is one of the most exclusive clubs in the world and has hosted numerous world-class events, from the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and the Rolex Swan Cup to the America’s Cup World Series. The picturesque backdrop and challenging waters between Sardinia and Corsica guarantee spectacular races accompanied by the constant mistral wind. The waters around Porto Cervo are renowned for their sailing challenges: the wind tunnel between Sardinia and Corsica creates strong but predictable conditions. While the regatta area is protected by islands, ensuring relatively calm seas, the shifting winds make every tack a tactical hotspot.

For Black Star Sailing, the event in Porto Cervo means more than just the start of a new tour. After the winter break, during which parts of the RC44 yacht were overhauled and refreshed, the team led by skipper Christian Zuerrer wants to start the season with renewed energy and position itself among the leaders early on.

The 2024 season was marked by highs and setbacks – so the team is now all the more motivated to take on the new challenge. Porto Cervo will be the first test of whether the technical adjustments and crew composition are paying off.

The shore team is also under a lot of pressure: two boats, two camps, two transport chains – as always, setting up in Porto Cervo requires the utmost precision and perfect coordination behind the scenes.

All information about the regatta can be found on the official RC44 class website at www.44cup.org.

We are looking forward to the start of the season in the RC44 class – and, as always, to your support on and off the water!
