44Cup Marstrand 2025
44Cup Marstrand, 24 – 28 June 2025, Marstrand, Sweden |
With the fourth regatta of the current 44Cup season, Black Star Sailing returns to a place that has long been a fixture on the calendar: Marstrand. For the fourth time, we are traveling with our RC44 yacht to the far north, where Sweden’s west coast shows its most impressive side.
The RC44 class is at home in Marstrand. Few places are as closely associated with the history of this racing series as the small island north of Gothenburg. Represented in the 44Cup almost every year, Marstrand not only offers ideal wind conditions but also an incomparable regatta backdrop. Between the fjord, the fortress, and the rocks, it is easy to see why Marstrand is considered Sweden’s sailing capital – a venue that is appreciated by top international teams as well as the local audience, who often watch the races directly from the shore.
The conditions could hardly be better: the long summer days and fresh north wind, coupled with thermal phases and changing currents, challenge the crew on board in terms of sailing, tactics, and physical fitness. This is exactly what makes Marstrand so appealing, and why the RC44 racing circuit keeps coming back here.
For Black Star Sailing, Marstrand is another milestone in the current season. After finishing fifth in the 44Cup Porto Cervo, we are going into the next round with a clear focus. The weeks in between were dominated by preparations – both on the water and on land. While our Cape 31 team was in action in Porquerolles, the logistics for our RC44 yacht were running in parallel.
Now the boat is ready for assembly in Sweden, the team has been briefed, and motivation is high. The RC44 class offers no easy competitions – especially not with teams like Artemis Racing, Team Nika, and Aleph, who have been setting the pace for years. But that’s exactly what makes it so appealing: competing, learning, improving – all in an environment that demands and promotes precision and passion in equal measure.
